About Silver Ash Photography
January 19, 2010Hello there!
My name is Rosanna, and I live in South East London. I am a qualified custom photographer (full explanation) which means my photography goes beyond the identikit photographs you might find elsewhere.
I do not hurry a session and allow plenty of time for me to get to know everyone involved and vice-versa – you will find me very approachable and friendly and I love children! Sessions will usually take at least an hour, often more to allow everyone to fully relax and for ideas to flow both ways because I want you to be very happy with the end result. I try to capture natural expressions and poses; these will be photos that reflect personality.
Every finished photograph will be painstakingly hand edited to bring out the very best. We can discuss the styles of post-processing you would like – I offer a variety of styles ranging from clean realism to fancy effects and of course black and white. I will show you examples to help you decide or I can mix it up a bit. I can also take reasonable editing requests from clients as well (the camera can lie sometimes!)
You will see the difference between my photographs and a regular high street-style photo session or a “shoot and burn” photographer. Custom photography is not cheap but it is a quality investment for your memories in years to come, and you do get what you pay for. I’m not happy providing anything other than the best I can from a photograph.
I am not just a mum with a fancy camera trying her luck, and here is why:
Only then did I feel 100% confident in charging custom photography prices for my work.
To ensure the highest quality for all my customers, I rarely book more than one client a week and spend that week working on their images on a full time basis. Therefore I am often booked up many weeks in advance so it is advisable to book early to have the best choice of slot. Newborns I can sometimes squeeze in at the last minute if there is space (best to photograph at under ten days) but it is better to book a floating slot around your due date instead.
I shoot most forms of portrait, including newborns, babies, breastfeeding, children, adults (including couples), maternity, engagement and more. In addition I also have experience of band photography.
Please take a look at my gallery for examples of my work if you haven’t already to help you decide if my style of photography fits your needs. If you are buying a session as a gift, please be sure the recipient will enjoy my style too!
I have a fully equipped portable studio with a variety of backdrops and surfaces I can take to your choice of location. All that is required is a power source, a minimum of 12 foot by 12 foot of clear space where I can set up without interruptions from little hands.. and somewhere for me to park the car. Full studio sessions will take a little longer due to set up time. Newborn sessions do not have these requirements.. just some space by a window is fine!
I also have an extremely portable mini studio for smaller spaces, or locations that are better reached by public transport. I am currently investigating hiring indoor locations for customers who really want the full studio but do not have the space – please enquire for details.
Outside of studio photography, I am happy doing natural light photography indoors or out. I can suggest local outdoor locations if necessary or I am happy to work at a favourite location of yours, including your garden if you have one.
For information on how things are likely to go when booking with me, please read the “How it works” page which should explain most things.
I regret at this stage I am not interested in wedding day photography.
If I do not cover your area (i.e. London and many parts of SE England) please take a look at my recommendations for other parts of the country, and indeed the world.
Outside of photography, I am a mother to two girls, B (3 years) and C (1 year). I was formerly a software engineer/technical author involved in a variety of industries including the games industry and mobile phone operating system development. I took voluntary redundancy after the birth of my second daughter, and following a lot of intensive training I completely changed career to finally use my creative talents with Silver Ash Photography. I have always loved photography and nothing brings me greater pleasure than being able to use my skills to make other people happy.
I ran the London marathon this year for the Miscarriage Association, raising over £2,000. I have a training blog with full details of why and how over at Brave or Foolish. I live in SE London with my husband, the girls and two black cats.
