Studio away from home!
Last weekend I did my first studio shoot away from the home. My brother Jake allowed me to photograph him at his home north of the river, along with his girlfriend El who never likes having her photo taken so I was shocked when she agreed. I hope she likes them! Even El’s mum volunteered for a few snaps as well. It made a nice change to photograph adults, who do this weird thing of staying where you tell them to, and actually looking at the camera on demand when necessary!
I remembered to pack everything except my softbox which was very annoying. I couldn’t take the full width paper that I bought a few weeks ago (it’s 9 foot!) so it was sawn up a little and I had a 1 metre width instead.
Here’s some of the first half of these photos, mostly starring my brother but some with his girlfriend too (SFW!!):

1. Moody brother

2. Colour

3. With girlfriend and whistle!

4. More Jake and El

5. More Jake and El only in colour!

6. More black and white
I also took along a black muslin backdrop but I have yet to process those photos – watch this space!
First time with seamless paper
Some photos of the children, and my first time using paper instead of cloth as a backdrop. Wow, what a difference! A ton of post-processing is no longer needed.. bliss!!
The paper I bought was called “Silver Birch” and is a warm grey.. almost beige. I also experimented with the flash gels (coloured plastic) I got for Christmas from my sister.
Anyway, children alert!
1. B, my oldest (she is 3)

2. C, my youngest (14 months)

3. With a red gel

4. B keeps mum

5. “Now, look here..”

6. B protects C from.. something.

7. C laughs

8. My new Facebook icon

Paper allowed me to finish 50 photos in the time it would usually take me to do 20. Such a difference!
